International Day of Persons with Disabilities

This is a very important day;
For people living in a different way.

With something that is plain the see;
Or more invisible to you and me.

Dignity and access were difficult fights;
Eventually achieving more human rights.

Prejudice is growing less and less;
Lowering the difficult awkwardness.

Equality is a long and tiring road;
Discrimination can be a heavy load.

So, please take a moment to be aware;
Of the movement to make things right and fair.

Whether born this way, or changed in life;
They are still a husband, still a wife.

Be proud of the progress we’ve made so far;
Disability isn’t all that you are.

A mother, a daughter, a father, a son;
Loved as an equal and second to none.
